 I&M Group Delivers 20% Profit Growth

I&M Group reported a 20% year-on-year increase in profit attributable to shareholders to Ksh 9.3 billion for H1 2026.

The Group’s regional operations continue to become an increasingly important contributor to performance, accounting for 33% of profit before tax, up from 25% a year earlier. With operations across Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Mauritius, I&M’s regional diversification is increasingly shaping the Group’s growth story.

Britam Holdings recorded a 52% increase in profit before tax to Ksh 3.8 billion, compared with Ksh 2.5 billion in H1 2025.

The performance was supported by higher underwriting revenue and investment income, while insurance revenue increased 13.7% to Ksh 22.4 billion. The results mark a strong start to the company’s ASCEND 2026–2030 strategy.

Investment returns were a major driver, rising 43.9% to Ksh 3.96 billion. While higher policy underwriting expenses put pressure on insurance service profits, the Group’s investment and asset management businesses helped deliver a significantly stronger overall result.

HFCB PBT Rises 74%

HFCB Group reported a 74% increase in profit before tax to Ksh 1.22 billion for the six months ended June 2026, compared with Ksh 703 million a year earlier.

The growth was supported by higher revenues, increased customer deposits and improved cost management, highlighting the Group’s continued recovery and expansion.

NSE Profit Surges 386%

The Nairobi Securities Exchange also delivered a strong H1 performance, with profit after tax increasing 386% to Ksh 736.9 million, from Ksh 151.6 million in H1 2025.

The performance was largely driven by its core trading business. Equity transaction levy income increased 476% to Ksh 770.5 million, while fixed-income revenue grew 22% and data income increased 29%.

NBK Reports 61% Profit Growth

National Bank of Kenya posted a 61% increase in profit after tax to Ksh 1.72 billion in H1 2026, up from Ksh 1.07 billion a year earlier.

Higher net interest income, lower credit impairment charges and disciplined cost management supported the improvement, pointing to continued progress in the bank’s transformation and asset quality.

The weighted average interest rates stood at 8.77% for the 91-day, 8.94% for the 182-day and 9.03% for the 364-day paper, keeping short-term government securities attractive to investors seeking relatively predictable returns.
