KenGen Revenue Rises, but Dividend Payout Falls

KenGen reported a 6.4% increase in revenue to Ksh 59.7 billion for the financial year ended June 2026, supported by record national electricity demand.

However, net profit declined marginally by 1.2% to Ksh 10.35 billion, mainly due to lower finance income as the company redirected cash reserves towards infrastructure development.

The Board recommended a dividend of Ksh 0.75 per share, representing a 16.7% reduction from the previous year. The cut is in part due to its plans to invest Ksh 1.9 billion in equipment upgrades while reducing its overall debt by Ksh 12.2 billion.
