KenGen Revenue Rises, but Dividend Payout Falls

KenGen reported a 6.4% increase in revenue to Ksh 59.7 billion for the financial year ended June 2026, supported by record national electricity demand.
However, net profit declined marginally by 1.2% to Ksh 10.35 billion, mainly due to lower finance income as the company redirected cash reserves towards infrastructure development.

The Board recommended a dividend of Ksh 0.75 per share, representing a 16.7% reduction from the previous year. The cut is in part due to its plans to invest Ksh 1.9 billion in equipment upgrades while reducing its overall debt by Ksh 12.2 billion.
Centum Announces CEO Transition
Centum Investment Company PLC announced that Dr. James Mworia will step down as Group CEO and Managing Director to become the founding CEO of the National Infrastructure Fund.

Mworia leaves after nearly 18 years at the helm, during which Centum’s assets grew from Ksh 4 billion to approximately Ksh 46 billion. The transition marks a significant change in leadership for one of Kenya’s leading investment companies.

Equity Group Surpasses Ksh 400 Billion Market Capitalisation
Equity Group Holdings became the first Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed banking group to surpass Ksh 400 billion in market capitalisation.

The milestone reflects the market value investors place on the banking group, which has grown into one of the largest financial institutions in the region.
Britam Clears Historical Accumulated Losses
Britam Holdings has cleared Ksh 5.88 billion in historical accumulated losses from its parent company books following a major financial restructuring.

The process involved reducing the share premium account, with the restructuring approved by the High Court and registered with the Registrar of Companies. The move removes the accumulated deficit from the company’s books and strengthens its balance sheet position.
Treasury Bill Demand Remains Strong

The latest Treasury Bill auction attracted Ksh 55.51 billion in bids against a government target of Ksh 28 billion, translating to an oversubscription rate of 198.2%.
The Central Bank accepted Ksh 53.28 billion, reflecting continued investor appetite for short-term government securities.

The Central Bank of Kenya has also published a new Ksh 60 billion Treasury Bond prospectus, reopening a 20-year bond issued in 2019 and a 30-year bond issued earlier this year.

The bonds offer coupon rates of 12.87% and 12.5%, respectively, providing investors with another opportunity to access long-term government securities.
NCBA Expands Diaspora Engagement

The partnership aims to address the financial, infrastructure and sustainability challenges facing the higher education sector.
