If you are saving for your child’s education, retirement, a home or another major financial goal, the hardest question is often not how much to save but where to put the money.
You may already have money in an MMF, SACCO, bank account, bonds or shares. But each serves a different purpose. Money you may need next month should not be invested the same way as money you will not need for another 10 years.
On 12th August 2026, we sat with Isaac Mwangi, Head of Innovation & Intelligence, and Gerald Cheruiyot, Head of Retail Distribution at Sanlam Allianz Life Insurance (Kenya) Limited, to unpack the time value of money.
The discussion had several key takeaways, including:
- Inflation erodes the value of money, so investments should aim to stay ahead of inflation.
- Give every investment a purpose. Invest consistently and match the investment to the goal. Consider the time horizon, risk, expected return and taxes before choosing where to put your money.
- Protect the downside.
- Think in portfolios, not individual products.

But towards the end of the discussion, the conversation moved beyond investing to something that is often overlooked: protection. The Sanlam Allianz team demonstrated how Flexi Future Plus could complement other investments as part of a broader portfolio, particularly when saving for a defined long-term goal.
So, what is Flexi Future Plus?
Flexi Future Plus is a goal-based savings and protection product designed to help you work towards long-term financial goals while giving you flexibility along the way.

You choose a goal, decide how much you want to work towards, select a policy term of between 5 and 17 years, and make either regular or single premium contributions.
At maturity, you can take the benefit as a lump sum or spread it across instalments, depending on the option available to you.
Why “Flexi Future Plus”?
The name itself explains the thinking behind the product.
Flexi refers to the flexibility built into the plan. You can choose how frequently you contribute and make adjustments as your circumstances and goals change.
The future reflects what the product is designed for: helping you work towards major goals such as education, retirement or home ownership.
Plus is the protection element. Beyond saving towards a future payout, you can add protection benefits to help keep the plan on track when unexpected events occur such as death, critical illness, permanent total disability and retrenchment.

An investor does not necessarily have to choose between Flexi Future Plus and everything else they already own. An MMF can provide liquidity for emergencies and short-term needs. Other investments can provide growth or income. Flexi Future Plus can be used towards a specific long-term goal where a guaranteed maturity benefit and protection are important.
There is also no withholding tax on the benefit. The plan also gives you flexibility along the way. It includes premium holidays, such as the option to take a break from contributions in January, and access to policy loans, subject to the applicable terms.
These features are designed to give investors both certainty around a long-term goal and some flexibility when their circumstances change.
If you have a long-term financial goal and are looking for an option that combines saving, certainty and protection, Flexi Future Plus is worth exploring.
