Treasury Bill Yields On A Steady Rise
The 91-day Treasury bill yield, widely regarded as the benchmark rate for money market funds, continued its gradual climb this week.
The weighted average yield increased to 8.8347%, up from 8.8275% last week, bringing the short-term government security even closer to the 9% mark as investor demand remains firm.
Inflation Eases in June
Kenya’s headline inflation eased to 6.4% in June 2026, down from 6.7% recorded in May.
The moderation signals a slight easing in overall price pressures, although inflation remains above the midpoint of the Central Bank’s target range.

Safaricom Stake Sale Complete
Vodafone Kenya Limited has completed the acquisition of an additional 15% stake in Safaricom PLC from the Government of Kenya, increasing its shareholding to 55%.

Leadership Changes

A new chapter began at the Nairobi Securities Exchange this week as Kiprono Kittony retired as Chairman after serving on the Board for twelve years.
He is succeeded by Tom Mulwa, who officially assumed the role of Board Chairman on 1 July 2026.

I&M Bank Kenya
I&M Group officially announced the appointment of Abdi Mohammed as the new Chief Executive Officer of I&M Bank Kenya, subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya.
The appointment marks one of the most significant executive changes within the banking sector this year.

Absa Bank Kenya
Following Abdi Mohammed’s departure, Yusuf Omari has been appointed Interim Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Absa Bank Kenya, effective 1 July 2026.

The bank also appointed Diana Mwaniki as Acting Chief Financial Officer, subject to regulatory approval. She previously served as Head of Financial Decision Support.

Airtel Kenya
Airtel Kenya has appointed Djibril Tobe as its new Managing Director, succeeding Ashish Malhotra, who has been named Chief Executive Officer of Indus Towers Africa.

BOC Kenya
BOC Kenya PLC announced the resignation of Joseph Ramashala as a Non-Executive Director, effective 3 July 2026.
Mr. Ramashala joined the Board in September 2021 and served on both the Audit & Risk Committee and the Nominations & Corporate Governance Committee.

The latest Stanbic Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) improved to 50.0 in June, up from 46.6 in May.
The reading indicates that business conditions stabilized after three consecutive months of contraction, offering encouraging signs for Kenya’s private sector heading into the second half of the year.
