Safaricom announced a significant change to its executive leadership this week, with Chief Financial Services Officer Esther Masese set to leave the company on 31 July 2026 after more than three years leading its Financial Services division.
Esther joined Safaricom in February 2023 after senior leadership roles at KCB Group and Standard Bank, where she oversaw the continued growth of M-PESA. Leadership changes are also underway at GTBank Kenya as Managing Director Jubril Adeniji prepares to leave the bank following a recall to the Group’s headquarters in Nigeria.

The bank has commenced a 90-day transition process, noting that Adeniji leaves behind a stronger institution following improvements in governance, credit quality and operational performance that position the bank well for its next phase of growth.

BAT Kenya Delivers Steady First Half Performance
BAT Kenya reported resilient first-half 2026 financial results, with gross sales increasing 3% to Ksh 18.96 billion while net revenue rose 5% to Ksh 12.27 billion.

Airtel Africa Maintains Strong Growth Momentum
Airtel Africa started its new financial year strongly, reporting a 31% increase in revenue alongside continued expansion across both its telecommunications and mobile money businesses.

The Group also reaffirmed plans to pursue a London listing of Airtel Money in 2026, a move expected to strengthen the capital position of its rapidly growing digital financial services business.
Treasury Bills Continue to Attract Strong Investor Demand
Treasury bills remained oversubscribed this week, with the government raising Ksh 29.3 billion against an offer of Ksh 28.0 billion.

Investor demand remained strongest for the 91-day and 182-day Treasury bills, while appetite for the 364-day paper softened, suggesting that investors continue to favour shorter-duration fixed income securities despite yields remaining attractive.
