Absa Next Launches Integrated Digital Finance Platform
Absa Bank Kenya has launched Absa Next, an integrated digital financial ecosystem bringing banking, saving, investing, borrowing and lifestyle services together on one platform.
Customers can access savings of up to 7%, investment returns of up to 16%, and instant credit ranging from KSh 500 to KSh 1 million for personal or business needs.
Co-op Bank and EBRD Close US$100 Million Swap
Co-operative Bank of Kenya and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have successfully closed a US$100 million cross-currency swap.
The transaction is expected to strengthen Co-op Bank’s capacity to provide competitively priced foreign-currency financing to Kenyan businesses.

Access Bank Kenya Transfers Business to NBK
Access Bank Kenya is transferring all its business, assets and liabilities to National Bank of Kenya (NBK).
Access Bank Kenya acquired 100% of NBK from KCB Group in May 2025. The latest transaction will consolidate the two businesses under NBK.

Bank of Kigali Joins China’s CIPS
Bank of Kigali has joined China’s Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS) as a direct participant.
The bank becomes the first bank in Rwanda and the first bank operating in East and Central Africa to join the system directly, strengthening its ability to facilitate cross-border transactions involving China.

Kenya’s Banking Sector Crosses KSh 8 Trillion in Assets

Kenya’s banking sector officially crossed the KSh 8 trillion mark in total assets in 2025, highlighting the continued expansion of the country’s financial system.

Treasury Bills Remain in Strong Demand
Treasury Bills were oversubscribed by 149.02% this week, with the Government raising KSh 33.35 billion against an offer of KSh 28 billion.
The 364-day Treasury Bill recorded a weighted average interest rate of 9.0431%.

Government Seeks KSh 50 Billion Through Treasury Bonds
The Government is seeking to raise KSh 50 billion through the reopened 15-year FXD3/2019/015 and 20-year FXD1/2019/020 Treasury Bonds.
The bonds carry coupon rates of 12.34% and 12.873%, respectively, with the bid submission deadline set for 30 September 2026 at 10:00 a.m.

Caritas Leads Microfinance Banks in Profitability
In the microfinance banking sector, Caritas emerged as the most profitable microfinance bank in absolute terms in 2025.
Its post-tax profit increased by 38% to KSh 69 million during the year.

I&M Bank Partners with Car & General
I&M Bank has partnered with Car & General to provide eligible distributors with flexible short-term financing of up to KSh 3 million for Car & General purchases.
The facility has a 30-day term and carries no interest, giving distributors additional working capital flexibility.

Quickmart Plans NSE Listing
Quickmart has announced its intention to list on the Nairobi Securities Exchange Main Investment Market Segment through an offer for sale of 2 billion shares, equivalent to 50% of its issued share capital.
The supermarket operates 72 stores across 16 counties and processes approximately 5 million customer transactions every month.

30 September: LAPTRUST and East Africa Portland Cement are expected to pay their dividends to shareholders.
Investors should also keep an eye on the Treasury bond subscription deadline of 30 September at 10:00 a.m.
