KCB Profits: The Group Delivers 14.5% H1 Profit Growth
KCB Group reported a 14.5% increase in profit after tax attributable to shareholders to Ksh 36.1 billion in H1 2026, up from Ksh 31.5 billion a year earlier.

The Group’s regional diversification continued to play an important role, with subsidiaries outside KCB Bank Kenya contributing 29.6% of Group profit before tax. Asset quality also improved, with gross non-performing loans falling 8% year-on-year to Ksh 203.8 billion. Real estate recorded the largest improvement, with NPLs declining from Ksh 47 billion to Ksh 35 billion.
The Board recommended an interim dividend of Ksh 9.6 billion, giving shareholders another reason to pay attention to the Group’s strong H1 performance.
Co-op Bank Profit Rises 28%

Co-operative Bank also reported a strong first half, with profit after tax increasing 28% to Ksh 18.0 billion, compared with Ksh 14.1 billion in H1 2025.

The Group’s subsidiaries contributed Ksh 2.49 billion in profit before tax. Kingdom Bank was the largest contributor at Ksh 873 million and recorded the fastest growth, with profit before tax increasing by 77.8%.
SanlamAllianz Profit Jumps 303%
SanlamAllianz Holdings Kenya reported H1 net profit of Ksh 124.6 million, a 303% increase from Ksh 30.9 million in the same period last year.

Insurance revenue rose to Ksh 2.2 billion, while Gross Written Premiums increased 32% year-on-year despite higher claims and lower investment returns during the period.
CBK Holds the Central Bank Rate at 8.75%
The Central Bank of Kenya maintained the Central Bank Rate at 8.75% for the third consecutive meeting. Since June 2024, the CBR has been reduced by 425 basis points.

The decision comes as inflation and global economic uncertainties remain key considerations for monetary policy..
At the same time, private sector lending has staged a strong recovery, moving from -2.9% in January 2025 to 10.2% in July 2026.

Equity Group Foundation has equipped 4,949 Wings to Fly and Elimu Scholarship scholars with leadership, life skills and career-readiness skills through its 17th Annual Education and Leadership Congress.
Treasury Bills Remain in Demand

Treasury Bills were oversubscribed by 145.68% this week, with the government raising Ksh 37.02 billion against an offer of Ksh 28 billion.
The 91-day paper recorded a weighted average interest rate of 9.0365%, keeping short-term government securities firmly on investors’ radar.

The government also raised Ksh 312.03 billion through reopened infrastructure bonds, more than twice the initial Ksh 150 billion target. The 16-year, 18-year and 21-year bonds carry coupon rates of 11.75%, 12.667% and 12.737%, respectively.

Financial Literacy for the Next Generation

Safaricom Appoints Non-Executive Directors
Safaricom PLC has appointed Mariam Cassim and Matimba Mbungela as Non-Executive Directors, effective 13th August 2026, subject to regulatory approval.

The appointments follow the resignation of James Ludlow and Dr. (Eng.) John Kipngetich Mosonik from the Board.

Family Bank is set to announce its H1 2026 financial results on Tuesday, 18th August 2026. The bank reported KSh 2.3 billion in profit after tax in H1 2025, up 35% from KSh 1.7 billion in H1 2024.

Also set to announce are: Absa Bank Kenya (18th), Standard Chartered Bank Kenya (19th), and Equity Group (20th).
